About
Matthew highly values the therapeutic alliance between himself and his clients. He adopts a collaborative approach, focusing on empowering his clients to make their own choices, build confidence in themselves, and to discover and draw from their innate strengths. Matthew wants to help his clients become self-sufficient, self-actualizing individuals. Matthew is interested in helping clients identify not just coping skills to address their symptoms but to identify possible root causes and identify an approach towards breaking maladaptive patterns of thoughts, behaviors, and feelings.
As a lifelong learner and aspiring professor, Matthew enjoys sharing evidence-based research with his clients, if applicable and is open to providing helpful resources.
As a Catholic, Matthew is also open to pastoral counseling should clients express interest in a faith-based approach.
In his spare time, Matthew practices and teaches martial arts, such as Muay Thai, and is beginning to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He is currently completing a PhD in Counseling Education and Supervision and aspires to become a professor in the near future.
