About

Patty has a wide range of background experiences, from working with formerly incarcerated college students at the New Jersey Scholarship and Transformative Education in Prisons (NJ-STEP) to working with the homeless and immigrant population at Elijah’s Promise and Promise Clinic and working in the higher education setting at Rutgers University. Most recently, Patty worked in a substance abuse treatment center where she provided individual, group, and family counseling to individuals diagnosed with substance use disorder and co-occurring disorders. Although Patty has a wide range of interests, at her core lies her passion for advocating for the rights of the oppressed and powerless, minorities, traumatized personnel, and individuals with diverse backgrounds. With a strong sense of social justice, Patty wants to leverage her expertise to improve and advance individuals, families, communities, and society. Patty wants to “lead a life in service of others,” this drive brought her to Harmony Bay Wellness. Patty’s therapeutic style upholds a strength-based, client-centered approach and a Person in Environment perspective.

Why Healthcare

Mental health care is at the core of an individual’s well-being. Mental health impacts all spheres of a person, from physical health to job functioning. The way we feel inside, our thoughts, and the chemical makeup of our brains dictate how we behave and speak outwardly to the world and ourselves. The demand for mental healthcare continues to grow as society and the world changes. Mental healthcare is a human right and should be accessible to all and progressive. Everyone deserves to be heard, understood and provided a space where they can dive fully into their personhood. Mental health care brings us back to the core of our humanity- each other’s ability to listen and speak with one another; although the methods used are backed by research and clinically based, therapy is an organic practice. Although mental health care is often stereotyped or belittled, we are shown again and again how important it is. Life can be tricky, being human is challenging, and everyone deserves a nonjudgmental space to clear their heads and speak their truths. No one was born with a guidebook on how to be human and social workers bridge the gap between psychology, sociology, and biology.
